STUDY PERMITS - OFF CAMPUS WORK REG:

 

Per Minister of IRCC announcement: April 29, 2024

  • Int’l Students with valid Study Permit permitted to work up to 24hrs /weekly Off Campus during School Term.  [Policy applies Fall 2024 intake onwards]
  • Currently 20 hours per week is allowed
  • No change on unlimited hours of work during Scheduled Academic Break

Additionally,

Temporary policy allowing students to work more than 20 hours per week off campus will come to an end on April 30, 2024, and it will not be extended

 

Summary:

  1. Int’l Students full time work policy during school session ended April 30, 2024
  2. Those on Scheduled break [May-Aug 2024]; can work full-time
  3. Generally Int’l Students are allowed to work full time Off campus while you are on scheduled break
  4. Those with active enrollment to classes between [May-Aug 2024]; can only work 20hrs per week [Off Campus]
  5. As of September 2024; all students are allowed to work 24 hours /weekly off campus when school is in session.  
  6. Be noted, the current rules on full time work hours during scheduled breaks remains unaffected.

December 07, 2023 Update:

The Minister made 2 announcements on December 7, 2023, regarding off-campus work. These temporary public policies exempt eligible full-time international students without a work permit from the requirement that they work no more than 20 hours off campus per week during regular academic sessions.

 

  • The off-campus work hours temporary public policy that was originally announced on October 7, 2022, will now be in effect from November 15, 2022, until April 30, 2024. It was previously set to expire on December 31, 2023. This temporary public policy permits certain students to work off campus for more than 20 hours per week during a regular academic session if IRCC has received their study permit application on or before October 7, 2022.

 

  • A new off-campus work hours temporary public policy will take effect on January 1, 2024, and will also be effective until April 30, 2024. This new temporary public policy will permit certain students to work off campus for more than 20 hours per week during a regular academic session if IRCC has received their study permit application between October 8, 2022, and January 1, 2024.
